Pony rides & fun

Pony riding birthday parties and picnics for children in the Tulbagh and Ceres region near Cape Town in South Africa
Our pony interactions and riding are both educational and fun.

Horse riding teaches children patience and perseverance and is recognised worldwide for its therapeutic benefits.

Not only are children usually drawn to horses, horse riding is excellent for balance, coordination, self confidence, low muscle tone, posture, and concentration.

Whether you would like your children to ride for fun, for therapy, or simply enjoy being around horses while getting some fresh air, then horseabout is the perfect family destination for you.

Horse interaction and pony rides are available for children up to 6 years of age or a max of 45 kgs.
Booking is essential.

Jo and John took me and my 4-year-old twins on the most amazing ride along the mountain range just outside Tulbagh. Me being slightly hesitant at first (I am a novice rider…) was a converted horse lover at the end of our trip. The views were amazing and the horses just adorable. I cannot wait to get back in the saddle for another memorable day and would recommend anyone (with or without kids) to do the same.
Anja, Cape Town
If you are visiting Tulbagh, Ceres or simply looking for a special way to celebrate a birthday party – why not book a pony party? Catering can be arranged with Readers Restaurant or you can bring your own. Enjoy a walk in the forest after the ride, or simply relax under a shady tree.

Apart from riding and many aspects of horse care, our activities include safety around horses, feeding, grooming, learning about tack and how to use it, we also teach children how to develop a bond with their horse

Our aims are:

  • To encourage safe and mutually beneficial interaction with animals.
  • Teach children about safety around horses
  • Learn more about understanding horses
  • Promote outdoor exercise
  • Teach an understanding of horse behaviour
  • Promote muscle development, balance and coordination.

We look forward to introducing your children to the world of horses
