Magical Moonlight Trails on Horse back
Our moonlight trail is suitable for novice riders and children who are comfortable trying a new adventure.
Moonlight trails are offered only during the summer months from November to April, weather permitting and usually a day or two before full moon.
A note regarding why we ride a few days before full moon - we are situated right under the Witzenberg Mountains, which means we get moonrise a good 2 hours later than the valley - so essentially a moonrise around 9.30 to 10 pm in summer. The waxing moon is very bright and impressive for the nights leading up to full moon, which is when we do our rides.
Follow us on Social Media or check back here for Summer 2020 dates.
Being serious about competing, setting goals & schedules and practicing endlessly, one can loose focus of why we started riding in the first place... for the love of the horse. Thank you John and Jo for reminding me of how wonderful it is just to RIDE!!!

Experience the cape winelands from a completely different perspective, lit by moonlight!
A trail by moonlight on horseback offers a truly magical experience to enjoy the beauty of the Witzenberg Valley.
Just 90 minutes from Cape Town, away from city light pollution, guests are blown away by the brightness of the moon and fascinated by having a moonshadow!
Start time varies according to the season.
We meet at sunset for introductions before heading up into the foothills of the Witzenberg Mountains as the daylight fades. We ride through magical forests and vineyards waiting for that magical moment when the moon crests over the mountains.

The ride on Saturday was fantastic. We really enjoyed it. I'm so amazed at how much light the moonlight gives. Thanks to John & the rest of the team (incl Freddie & Dynamite) for making it so enjoyable! We will definitely be back :-)
