The Horse About Team

Horse riding trails and picnics in the Tulbagh wine region near Cape Town in South Africa
Trust and respect are vital elements in any partnership and form the essential foundations of our training methods with our horses.

Several of our horses have come to us as "problem" horses and have been re-trained to have a chance at a new career, one that they all seem to enjoy doing!

Our equestrian partners live as naturally as possible in a herd environment and large paddocks with lots of space to move, as nature intended. A lack of confinement, living within a herd hierarchy and correct handling ensures calm, willing and trusting partners.

Safety and comfort for horse and rider are our priorities and the correct matching of rider skill to horse is essential to ensure an enjoyable experience. Our horses temperaments vary from bombproof for novices and nervous riders to energetic for the more advanced rider.

The word is so overused, but if I had to find one word for the time we had with Horse About, it can ONLY be "awesome". The horses were in excellent condition, superbly mannered, and just a joy to ride. We did not want the day to end. Yvette, Cape Town

Who are we?

John and Jo have spent most of their lives with horses. John is a renowned horseman with a wealth of experience both locally and internationally. His natural skill and affinity with horses and riders will soon have the inexperienced relaxed in the saddle and the more advanced working muscles they might have forgotten about!

John has been riding, schooling and working with horses from a variety of disciplines for over 50 years and is well known for his ability to re-train "problem" horses. His goal is to teach as many people About the Horse.

Jo started guiding horse trails in Chile and enjoys watching guests unwind as they experience a new world from horseback. Jo is happiest exploring new trails or simply spending time with the herd.

Come and join us for a whole lot of fun with magnificent horses and experienced guides in the foothills of the Witzenberg Mountains.

We look forward to Horsing About with you!
Dear John and Jo, I thoroughly enjoyed the horse ride and your company. Thanks so much for a wonderful evening with great food, lovely horses and beautiful scenery. I definitely want to take my horse riding to the next level – so thanks for inspiring me here"
